Be Who You Needed When You Were Younger

At DFD, we look for more than just experience. Of course, we want our teachers to be trained, well-rounded dancers, but more importantly, we look for those who are thoroughly invested in our mission. Our goal is to empower South Asian youth and provide role models who represent a cultural identity similar to theirs - something many of us did not having growing up as first generation South Asian-Americans. We aim to empower our students to learn something beyond their comfort zone that gives them confidence in their everyday lives whether they're children, teens, or adults. As a DFD Instructor you’re not just a dance teacher – you’re a coach and a mentor.

Instructor Responsibilities

As an Instructor you would be responsible for teaching classes 1-2 nights a week with students ranging from 7 to 18 years of age. The time commitment is 3-6 hours of teaching time per week. Apart from the training period, you would be instructing the classes independently, but choreography would be provided to you. You would also be responsible for keeping up with the curriculum and reporting to the Director on students’ progress.

As an Instructor you not only have a chance to mentor students through something you love, but also a chance to work in an entrepreneurial, small business environment and build your network in various dance communities. As a team, we're a tight knit group that supports each other in our work both at DFD and outside of it. We see ourselves as staff members who not only serve our students, but also our communities, and each other.

This is a part-time, paid position.

Starting pay: $20 per hour

Why DFD

We recognize that our staff members have day jobs and busy lifestyles, which is why we work closely with each member to design a schedule that's most manageable for them. Classes are never held on Friday or Saturday nights - those are sacred to us. Staff retreats (partially funded by DFD) are part of the perks of being on our team - we've gone on road trips, camping trips, and city getaways to get inspired and ideate what's next for our company. Each member of our staff is valuable to DFD beyond just their teaching abilities. Their ideas for growth and innovation are always recognized and considered for further promotion within the organization.
