Personal Assistant to Creative Executive (Los Angeles)

We're looking for a reliable and proactive Assistant to support our Founder (Devika Dhawan) in running the business and managing personal logistics. As the Assistant to the Founder, you'll be enabling everyone at DFD to accelerate our mission of enriching students' lives through dance. Our Founder wears many hats, so you'll be providing admin support to a school director, a freelance choreographer, and a CEO/public figure.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives when they're busy, is a responsive and clear communicator, and is passionate about culture and community. At DFD, it's not just about dance; it's about enrichment and personal growth. Here, you'll be helping us create a safe space for South Asian youth and adults to express themselves and embrace their dual identity. Some additional perks: You'll be able to continue your dance education with us for free and learn the ins and outs of running a creative business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enroll students

  • Coordinate invoice / billing updates

  • Coordinate sign ups for dance shows

  • Respond to client inquiries on email and social media

  • Order costumes, props, or other inventory as requested by team

  • Schedule meetings, space requests, or personal appointments

  • Book flights, hotels, or venues for work and personal events

  • Basic video editing for maintenance of digital library

  • General admin support such as managing email and updates, organizing and uploading digital resources, and other adhoc projects to keep things operating quickly and efficiently

  • Occasionally attend in-person events or classes to support with administration or capture content for social media

This is a part-time (1099 contractor) position (mainly remote except for events or adhoc assignments.) It is expected that you’ll contribute roughly 15-20 hours of work per week with a pay of $1500-$2000/month depending on experience level.

Ideal Candidate

  • College graduate with prior internship or work experience (in creative industry preferred)

  • Dance experience in, or knowledge of, Bollywood or other South Asian dance styles

  • LA-based with access to a car

  • Great communication skills (can be sensitive to client needs but also convince them to work collaboratively)

  • Can proactively manage up (remind our Founder of deadlines and follow up when something requires her attention)

  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using social media (Instagram / Tik Tok) and basic editing tools (Canva / video editors etc.)

  • Manage multiple tasks independently and on-deadline

  • Is super organized and detail oriented (this is not just a word we're throwing out, it’s truly important in this role as small details in communication can throw everything off in planning.)

  • Creative problem solver - can pitch in wherever efficiencies are needed

More About Us

Founded in 2013, DFD Academy is a performing arts education start-up established in the Greater Boston Area and now expanding to Los Angeles. Our company is focused on precision-based training in South Asian dance styles. We blend Bollywood, Hip Hop, Folk, Contemporary and Classical dance to create something stylistically unique and universally relevant. What began as a need for us to fuel our own passions for dance has now become a school of over 150 students that's not only focused on dance education, but also a means to build confidence, embrace multicultural identity, and encourage teamwork for the next generation of dancers.

Our team is passionate about working with children, teens, and adults to help shape the future of not only their artistic abilities but also the growth of their confidence and personal enrichment. Here, you not only have a chance to be a part of something you love, but also have the opportunity to grow in an entrepreneurial environment. We’re a tight knit group that supports each other in our work both at DFD and outside of it. We see ourselves as staff members who not only serve our students, but also our communities, and each other.
